As a photographer I love early morning light. And sometimes you just know it’s going to be a good day to take photos.
The other morning was one of those days. So I hopped out of bed and hit the road in the dark. I drove along Main Street, past the lit Christmas trees and thought that soon the trees will be gone until next year: their purpose served.
I had a list of places I wanted to visit that morning and I thought through how I would make that happen while the day was fresh. NOW was the perfect moment: a magical moment.
The snow lay on the branches of the trees and created a magical winter wonderland. But soon, the wind would come up and the snow would be on the ground, branches bare again.
I hurried to Leonard Harrison State Park....as hurried as you can go on bad roads. When I arrived, the day was just beginning to break. Everything was bathed in beautiful blue light....a photographers dream, especially against white snow.
I was relieved to see that the snow on the ground was pristine..untouched by human footprints as I started walking to the lookout. But I was not alone.
A herd of deer gazed my way as we converged at the lookout. They headed off towards the Overlook trail as I trudged carefully through the snow to the main overlook.
Of course, the canyon shimmered in its blanket of snow. Every tree was covered in white. And it was reasonably mild without the usual wind blowing,
I took my pictures, then headed to my next stop. But what a magical, wonderful experience it was........ it’s good to be there.....When the magic happens..
